Hon. Kent Smith

Kent Smith was first elected in 2021. Prior to becoming Minister of Fisheries & Aquaculture in 2023, Hon. Smith was a member of several legislative standing committees including Public Accounts, Health, Natural Resources & Economic Development. Minister Smith was a member of the historic all-party committee that created Bill 96, the Dismantling Racism and Hate Act, in 2022, and served as Deputy Speaker of the Legislature from November 2022 until September 2023.

Prior to entering politics, Minister Smith was a longtime entrepreneur and spent 14 years in a family-owned waste management business, followed by 7 years as a real estate developer. He is an active community volunteer and has spent time on the board of the local Chamber of Commerce & Civic Affairs, as well as the Foyer Ecole at Ecole des Beaux-Marais.

Minister Smith lives in Porters Lake with his partner, Kelly, their collective three children, and three dogs.
