Dr. Sherry Scully

Director, Workforce Development

The PIER

Sherry Scully is the Principal of SES Workforce Research and Consulting.  Sherry has more than two decades of experience conducting primary research and contributing to literature, resources, strategy and program development related to workforces in evolving industries and those in transformation.  She has been working in the sustainable blue economy for more than 10 years.

In her current contract role as Director of Workforce Development at The PIER, a living lab for the Port of Halifax, she is studying high value skills that will be in demand as the port and maritime transportation industry evolves towards more sustainable and decarbonized practices. She develops programs for cultivating these skills and for building awareness.  She also examines barriers to entry to port careers, with an additional focus on under-represented workers, and provides counsel on managing the change that a shift to greener operations will have. Her overall mandate is to consider the growth and evolution of the transportation industry and the implications that has for regional and national workforce.

Sherry holds an interdisciplinary PhD in social psychology and management from Dalhousie University, as well as an MBA and two degrees in Education. A strong advocate for learning, Sherry volunteers with educational development efforts internationally, and in her spare time can be found snorkeling in the ocean or wandering a mountain top – exploring sea to sky!
